General Ordering FAQ
How does ordering from OrchidBox work?
You can order either in-stock items or preorder items through our website. In-stock items are plants we already have on hand and ready to process for shipment. Preorder items are plants reserved in advance before they enter our regular in-stock inventory.
What is the difference between in-stock and preorder items?
In-stock items are already in our possession and are typically ready to ship more quickly. Preorder items are reserved ahead of time and usually offer access to a much larger catalog and better pricing.
Can I place an order with both in-stock and preorder items?
In many cases, yes. However, because preorder items follow a different fulfillment timeline, your order may be held until all items are ready unless otherwise specified. Please review the listing details carefully before placing your order.
Do you inspect plants before shipping?
Yes. We quality check plants before they are sent out. We care deeply about plant quality and do our best to ensure plants meet our standards before shipment.
Why do prices sometimes change?
Pricing can vary based on availability, vendor costs, import conditions, handling requirements, and whether an item is offered as a preorder or listed later as in-stock inventory.
Why are in-stock plants sometimes more expensive than preorders?
Once plants become in-stock, they often reflect additional costs such as import processing, labor, storage, losses, and inventory risk. In many cases, in-stock items are marked up an additional 10–25% compared to preorder pricing.
Do you charge extra fees after checkout?
No surprise administrative or paperwork fees are added after checkout as part of our normal preorder process. We aim to keep pricing straightforward and transparent.
Do you really care about the plants you sell?
Absolutely. We love plants, we care about our customers, and we take pride in building a business centered around access, transparency, and quality.
Section 2
Why OrchidBox Preorders?
Preorders are one of the main ways we provide customers with access to a much larger plant catalog at better pricing than would otherwise be possible.
From the start, our mission has been simple: make exciting plants more accessible to more people. That mission has guided OrchidBox since inception and remains central to how we operate today.
More selection
Preorders let customers access plants that may never appear in regular in-stock inventory, creating a much broader catalog.
Better pricing
Preorders are often priced lower than in-stock inventory. Our pricing follows a fixed vendor markup structure plus fees, not arbitrary extreme markups.
Detailed tracking
We have developed internal technology over the last five years to track every preorder assignment in detail.
Refined process
We have spent years improving the preorder workflow and refining the process to make it more reliable for customers.
We handle coordination
We manage the backend logistics and paperwork involved in the preorder process so the experience is more straightforward for the customer.
Quality checked
Every preorder item is checked before it is sent out. We take quality seriously and do our best to make sure items meet our standards.
Why we stand behind it
We believe preorders are a valuable service because they provide greater selection and lower pricing. We continue to invest in this process because we believe it benefits the plant community.
Preorders are not a no-risk model for us. Suppliers often require minimum order quantities, which means we may need to purchase more inventory than a customer individually ordered. We also take on storage, handling, and quality-control risk.

Preorder FAQ
What is a preorder?
A preorder allows you to reserve a plant before it becomes part of our regular in-stock inventory. This gives you access to a larger catalog and often better pricing than waiting for the plant to be listed later.
Why should I preorder instead of waiting for in-stock?
Preordering often gives you access to more plants, earlier access to desirable varieties, and lower pricing.
Are preorders guaranteed?
No preorder is completely risk-free. Because these are live plants moving through real-world supply chains, items can sometimes become unavailable or arrive in poor condition.
What happens if a preorder item becomes unavailable?
If we cannot fulfill a preorder item because it becomes unavailable, we process a full refund.
What happens if a plant is damaged before fulfillment?
If a plant is damaged in a way that prevents fulfillment, our full refund policy applies.
Do you offer substitutions?
When appropriate, we may communicate about substitutions or alternatives. Our internal tracking system helps us manage this process more accurately and efficiently.
Why do preorders help offer more plants?
Preorders allow us to source based on customer demand rather than limiting our catalog to only what we already have in inventory. That makes it possible to offer a much larger selection.
Why not just stock everything in advance?
Keeping every possible plant in stock would significantly limit selection and usually increase pricing. The preorder model helps us offer more variety while keeping access broader and pricing more attractive.
How long have you been doing this?
We have been developing our supporting technology for the last five years and refining the preorder process itself for nearly three years.

Shipping & Fulfillment FAQ
When will my order ship?
Shipping times depend on whether your order contains in-stock items, preorder items, or a combination of both. Please review product listings and order details for the most accurate fulfillment expectations.
Do you ship preorder items immediately after they arrive?
We first receive, process, inspect, and organize preorder items before shipment. This helps us maintain quality standards and fulfillment accuracy.
Do you check plants before they go out?
Yes. We inspect plants before shipment as part of our quality-control process.
What if something goes wrong during the preorder process?
We believe in being transparent about the risks. Sometimes items become unavailable or are damaged during shipping or processing. If we cannot fulfill an item, our full refund policy applies.
Section 5
Refunds & Support FAQ
Do you offer full refunds on unfulfilled preorder items?
Yes. If a preorder item cannot be fulfilled, we process a full refund.
Do you disclose the risks of preorders?
Yes. We believe customers should understand that live plant preorders involve real supply-chain and transit risk. We aim to be direct and transparent about that.
Why should I trust OrchidBox with preorders?
We have invested heavily in the systems, workflow, and operational discipline needed to make preorders work well. We track assignments closely, manage customer communication carefully, quality check plants before shipment, and stand behind the process with a full refund policy when an item cannot be fulfilled.
What makes OrchidBox different from other preorder sellers?
We have spent years building the technology and refining the operational process behind preorders. Our goal is to offer broader access, better pricing, thoughtful communication, and a preorder experience customers can feel confident in.
